NO HUNGER RADIO: COVID-19
Action Against Hunger – and the world – looked very different to what was expected in 2020. The Covid-19 pandemic affected everything we do, everywhere that we work. It affected what we do, and how and where we do it. It affected our staff, the vast majority of whom had to adapt to entirely new ways of working and many of whom were under immense pressure to deliver new and existing programmes in unforeseen and adverse conditions.
At the end of 2020, we caught up with our staff in five of the places where we work – East Africa, West Africa, Latin America, India and the Middle East – to find out how the specific effects of the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted our staff and our operations in their particular contexts.
EPISODE 1: MIDDLE EAST
The first episode in our series focuses on the Middle East, where we spoke to Ayla Kharrat, Tatyana El Kour and Willow Rook, about how the pandemic has affected our offices in Syria and Yemen.
EPISODE 2: HORN AND EAST AFRICA
In the second episode in our series, we spoke to Alfred Ejem in Nairobi about how the Covid-19 pandemic is having a devastating impact on already fragile livelihoods and unstable economies in the Horn and East Africa.
EPISODE 3: INDIA
The third episode in our series features India, in which Rashmi at Action Against Hunger India talked to us about the different ways her team supported the population during the pandemic, whether by providing food, knowledge and information about the pandemic, or help to deal with their fear.
EPISODE 4: WEST AFRICA: Mali & Mauritania
In the fourth episode of our series, we spoke to advocacy and gender coordinators in the Mali and Mauritania missions to understand how they were responding to the pandemic in their parts of West Africa.
EPISODE 5: HAITI
In this final episode, we hear about the impact of the pandemic, how it developed over the past year, and the current challenges with getting the vaccine into the country.
